MJ Hegar Applauds Supreme Court Ruling Protecting DREAMers

Yesterday, on the 8th anniversary of the start of the Deferred Action for Early Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the Supreme Court of the United States decided in a 5-4 ruling that DACA will continue. With this decision, the 800,000 DREAMers in the country will be able to continue building their lives and contributing to our communities without fear that their future could be ripped away from them at a moment’s notice. Below is a statement from MJ Hegar on the decision:

The 800,000 DREAMers are serving our communities as school teachers, doctors, nurses, soldiers, and so much more. I am proud that these young people no longer have to fear that they could be turned away from the only country they have ever known, but the work isn’t done. We need to fix our broken immigration system by passing comprehensive immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship for those who are already here, while ensuring we protect those who want to come here for a better future for themselves and their families.”
