A New Chapter for Marlin ISD: Local Governance Returns!
A Special Board Meeting of the Marlin ISD Board was held February 2, 2026 at 5:00 pm in the MISD Boardroom, Board President Byrleen Terry, presiding. Attendees were Kathleen Barrett, Rosalyn Dimerson, Misty Ehlers, Billy Johnson, Winnette Outland, Marsha Ridlehuber, Superintendent of Schools Alphonso Bates and Dr. Rolando Trevino, TEA School Conservator.
The BOD moved into closed session (a) Pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 551.074, deliberation of personnel matters to include Superintendent’s Evaluation and Contract. No action was taken.
Convening from closed session, action items were presented by Norman Jones, Chief Operating Officer. Three agenda items approved were (1) an amendment and a change order to the agreement between the District and Cotton Commercial USA, Inc. dba Target Solutions for the high school gym construction project, to include a fire suppression system. Bond 2022 funds will cover the expenses. (2) A regular Election for Single Member District 1; two At-Large positions; and (Special) Single Member District 2, to be held on May 2, 2026. (3) 2024-2025 Financial Audit. The meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
Local Governance Returns
Prior to salutations to the outgoing Board of Managers, Kathleen Barrett and Marsha Ridlehuber, who served the district diligently, Superintendent Bates officially announced, as of January 29, 2026, Marlin ISD has transitioned from TEA Board of Managers back to elected Board of Trustees. Certificates and other farewell gifts of appreciation were presented to the outgoing Board of Managers. Board of Trustees Billy Johnson Byrleen Terry were recognized for their tenure, 1917-2026 as Board members. Supt. Bates thanked all who played a part in the journey to local governance. An informal reception followed.
