Tomlinson Hill Log Cabin and Tabernacle restored

The Old Settlers and Veterans Association of Falls County is proud to announce that restoration of the two historic structures at the Tomlinson Hill reunion grounds is complete.  The 1914 tabernacle restoration was completed in 2018 and the 1840s Morrell log cabin was completed this month.  The non-profit was established in 1908 to keep the early Falls County history alive and to honor veterans.  After the grounds and structures had fallen into ruin, a new board was established in 2015 and an eight year effort has been ongoing to clean up the grounds and restore the structures.  The site was named one of the fifteen Most Endangered Places in Texas by Preservation Texas.  Thanks to all the volunteers, friends and donors who have worked tirelessly to make this possible.  The association sponsors Texas history days for area school children and the public as well as programs to honor veterans.  Efforts are continuing to improve the grounds, picnic areas and to build a nature trail and plant bluebonnets.  The 18 acre site is available for rent and has restrooms with showers as well as RV hookups. Many families from throughout Texas come for family reunions, weddings and camping.  For more information call 254 493-0567.
