DORIS JEAN WALTER SCRUGGS

Doris Jean (Walter) Scruggs passed away on January 20, 2026, at age 95. She graduated from Marlin High School and attended Texas State College for Women, now TWU, and The University of North Texas, both in Denton. She married Windell Scruggs December 18, 1949, at Perry Methodist Church, Perry, Tx.

Doris loved life and never met a stranger. She invited Chef Helen Corbet to speak to the Marlin Junior League, started two businesses including a community area for sales and The Famous Intrigue. She retired from the Tx. Dept. of Criminal Justice Hobby Unit in Marlin. She loved to read, throw parties, travel, play bridge and was unbeatable at dominos. She valued family, friends, a good attitude and humor. Her laugh was contagious.

Doris is survived by two daughters Connie Gustafson/ Dallas, and Beth Scruggs/Marlin, grandchildren Kelly Scruggs and Jodi Guitzkow/Marlin, Daniel Scruggs/Las Vegas, NV/Chelsie Gustafson, Dallas/ Marlin Fodor and husband Tommy/Yukon, OK, five great grandchildren, Donavon Blakes and Logan Guitzkow/Waco, Larson Guitzkow/Marlin, Abreylynn and Adaline Fodor/ Yukon, OK and her brother, Bill Walter/Fort Worth.

She was preceded in death by her husband Windell, son Phillip, daughterin- law Donna, granddaughter Wendy, sister Evelyn Wade, and mother and father William and Edna Walter.
