Bells of Falls County ring for Easter

Rosebud News Feature

Easter Sunday, April 12, saw churches closed across Falls County because of the Covid-19 pandemic.  The electronic sign in downtown Lott lists four additional events that have been cancelled or postponed because of this national and worldwide emergency.

Don Stiles, one of the elders at First Presbyterian Church in Lott, claims the idea of bell ringing on Easter Sunday came to him as he was walking his dogs one afternoon a week or so ago.  Eddie Sliva, member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lott, agreed to help out by ringing his church's bell on Easter Sunday.  The plan was to contact the churches in the county who have bells and have them all ring their bells at 12:00 noon on Easter Sunday.

Harriet Burke from Marlin reached out to First Methodist and First Baptist there and enlisted their participation.  Dr. Morgan Woodard from First Baptist in Golinda said he would be happy to "yank on our bell" after they completed their drive-in church service on Easter.  Larry Jackson, minister of the Rosebud Church of Christ, tried to find a church with a bell in Rosebud, but had to report there are none in that city.

Thus, five churches in Falls County had their bells ringing in honor of Christ's Resurrection on Easter Sunday.  If somehow we overlooked a church with a bell, please accept our apologies.  We would like to ring the bells again when with God's help we overcome the coronavirus scourge.
