CGC’s “The Magnificent Six” Prune Roses

Six ladies, dubbed for the day ‘The Magnificent Six’, of the 103-year-old Community Garden Club of Marlin (CGC) pruned the Belinda’s Dream rose bushes that just four years ago were planted at the Falls County Courthouse Memorial Garden. They pruned the rose bushes at the Courthouse Bell Garden as well.

February 10, 2026, was a perfect day for pruning in Falls County, a little overcast, not too cold, not too hot. Armed with pruning shears, gloves, and a whole lot of enthusiasm, six gardeners descended on the memorial garden to transcend mere gardening. Members of the Community Garden Club of Marlin embody a holistic approach towards cultivating a deeprooted passion for plants; it fosters a sense of community, promotes environmental stewardship, and encourages artistic expression.

The Magnificent Six were Chelleye Crow, Terry Glover, Angel Butler, Olga Rosas, Samenthia Milnes, and Letitia Estep.

Falls County Judge Jay Elliott, who snapped this photograph, exclaimed proudly, “We are honored to have the oldest garden club in the State of Texas and we certainly appreciate all the wonderful work it performs!”

The Community Garden Club has 20 members and is part of Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. and National Garden Clubs, Inc. Its efforts at the county courthouse also represent the Keep Texas Beautiful affiliate network.

The Community Garden Club looks forward to adding to its list of beautification projects in the Marlin community.
