City of Marlin Charter Commission meets

The Charter Review Commission is scheduled to hold what may be its final meeting on Monday, June 2, 2025, at City Hall. The meeting will run from 6 to approximately 8 p.m., as the group prepares to finalize suggested amendments to the city charter for submission to the City Council.

The Commission began its review process on July 1, 2024, and has met consistently on the first and third Monday of each month. Over the past year, members conducted a comprehensive review of the city’s charter—a full examination that had not been undertaken in many years.

Following the Commission’s final recommendations, the City Council will consider each proposed amendment. Any approved changes will move forward through the appropriate legal steps to be placed on the November 2025 ballot for voters to decide.

In accordance with state requirements, the approved amendments will be published in the Democrat newspaper during the 14 days leading up to the election to allow residents the opportunity to review them in full.

The Commission is chaired by Melissa Mahoney. Rocky Terry serves as Vice Chairman, and Elizabeth Nelson as Secretary. Other members include Jose Ponce, Kyle Simmons, John Barrett, Will Roe, Nakita Bowman and Shara Hance.
