GAMA Gives $25,000 to Central Texas Food Bank to Help With COVID-19 CRISIS
AUSTIN, TEXAS – (April 16, 2020) GAMA (Greater Austin Merchants Cooperative Association) has donated $25,000 to the Central Texas Food Bank. This gift will provide 200,000 meals to Central Texans who are facing food insecurity due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the spirit of wanting to give back to all communities, GAMA’s goal for this gift is to make a direct impact on those who need it most.
Shane Walker, Chief Operating Officer at GAMA, explains why this contribution will make such a strong impact. “So many of our customers and their families have been affected by this pandemic,” he said. “People need help now more than ever and are having to make hard decisions for their families, while dealing with loss of income. GAMA is very pleased to be able to assist the Central Texas Food Bank and the good work they do in our community.”
The Central Texas Food Bank provided more than 43 million meals last year through its network of 300 partner agencies and mobile food pantries in 21 counties throughout Central Texas. They have been a community leader in the fight against hunger for 39 years. GAMA’s donation will support the one in seven Central Texans, including one in five children, who may not know where their next meal is coming from.
“The COVID-9 pandemic has created a skyrocketing demand for our services, stretching our resources to the limit,” said Derrick Chubbs, president and CEO of the Central Texas Food Bank. “This generous donation from our friends at GAMA demonstrates the power of a caring community and will provide thousands of meals to our neighbors in need during these uncertain times.”
