HEB delivers to Seniors

Favor seeking drivers

It was announced on March 20 that HEB would be partnering with Favor Delivery, a food delivery service, to provide groceries to the elderly.

Seniors, considered anyone 60 years of age or older, can order their groceries by phone, online, or by the Favor app in the safety of their own home and will have their groceries delivered that very same day.

“We heard from our customers loud and clear, and we’re ready to offer one of the safest, healthiest solutions in the marketplace dedicated to seniors who are worried about going out in public,” said Martin Otto, H-E-B chief operating officer. “Together with Favor, H-E-B is committed to helping Texans get the products they need while slowing the spread of coronavirus in our communities.”

Despite the disbelief from community members, this new program extends to the Marlin HEB, located at Live Oak and Walker St.

The Senior Support phone line is staffed with volunteers from both HEB and Favor to accept and process orders over the phone from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., seven days a week. Volunteers are working remotely to ensure that each caller receives their own personal shopper to address their unique needs. To access the Senior Support Line, call 1-833-397-0080.

Seniors can also place their orders on Favor’s website at favordelivery.com/senior, or by downloading the Favor app to their cellular device and searching for “H-E-B”.

Seniors can place orders via web and app from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.

At this point, the delivery service only extends to those living in Marlin, but Jimmy Generals, Marlin HEB Store Director, hopes to be able to extend the service to all of Falls County eventually.

“Right now, it’s about the drivers,” he told reporters. “If we can get more drivers, we might be able to deliver further.”

He went on to say that it is not for sure that expansion to the rest of Falls County is possible, but that there are not even enough drivers to keep up with the demand thus far.

If you are able bodied, practicing CDC guidelines, and want to help the elderly during this time, head to apply.favordelivery.com to become a runner.

HEB is encouraging that anyone who’s address does not fall into their delivery areas call 211 or (877)541-7905, a non-HEB affiliated national community help line, committed to providing resources and helping people overcome barriers and address challenges. Head to 211.org for more information.
