HOTEC’s Operation Round Up donates $22,500 to area food pantries

With the rising unemployment rate due to the COVID-19, Heart of Texas Electric Cooperative has reached out to the communities in the area by providing for another basic need – food.

Through the Operation Round Up program, donations were made totaling $22,500. Nine food pantries within HOTEC’s service territory will be receiving a check for $2,500.

“Concern for community is one of the co-op’s founding principles,” said General Manager Brandon Young. “With the rising unemployment due to COVID-19, it is our civic duty to assist area food pantries during this time of high demand.”

Operation Round Up is a voluntary program offered by Heart of Texas EC in which members generously “round up” their electric bills to the nearest dollar.

Every month, the additional pennies, nickels and dimes are added to a special fund and then dispersed by the Operation Round Up Trust Board to local non-profit organizations.

For organizations interested in applying for funds, visit the Heart of Texas EC website at: hotec.coop or contact the office located in Rosebud or McGregor at 800-840-2957.
