Lions Beautify Uptown Marlin Streets

Special to the Marlin Democrat

The difference in the appearance of our uptown streets has begun!

Firstly, came the U.S military banners provided by the American Legion with the help of Gene Brown, who mounted them on the street posts.

Secondly, Lions heartily started appearing at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26th, at the corner of Live Oak and Craik Streets to paint the curbs yellow! And look who was first: John Armstrong! He was quickly joined by Lions Anthony Roppolo, Letitia Estep, Jay Elliott, Ramona Grabil, and Charlotte and Douglas Langston. There was sweeping, weed-eating, shoveling, and leaf-blowing, and, of course, yellow-painting to be done! When asked why, Jay Elliott explained, “Because it is a way of making and keeping Marlin beautiful.”

Every member of our Marlin community is welcome to join in beautifying Uptown Marlin’s streets, one block at a time. The next Paint Day will be Saturday, October 24th, from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m., meeting at the light signal in Marlin by the freshly rejuvenated Falls County Courthouse (work in progress).

Please contact John Armstrong at (214) 229-6674 with questions. Most importantly, mark calendars. All help, be it an hour or half-hour, to clean and paint our uptown streets will be appreciated.
