Lions: Sharing is Caring

Special to the Marlin Democrat

September is Lions Club International’s Kindness Matters month. This month, Marlin’s Lions Club members join over 1.4 million Lions in 47,000 clubs around the world in making a difference showing kindness to others in their communities, helping neighbors, and making life better for the people they serve.

Kindness matters to Lions in Marlin, TX, where Lions often volunteer at food pantries, deliver meals to homebound residents, and provide transportation to medical appointments. Recently, Marlin Lions Club members scribed almost 150 Thinking of You notes, gentle words of comfort and wishes for peace and joy amidst these trials. Eighty handwritten thoughts of kindness were shared with residents of Marlin’s Golden Years Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 30 were written for Meals on Wheels-Marlin residents, and another cache of notes were designated for patients of Falls County Community Hospital.

We know Lions perform acts of kindness every day in all parts of the world. In Marlin, they continue to perform random acts of kindness. You see and hear them; they open doors, carry packages, give compliments. “Now more than ever, kindness matters,“ echoes Marlin’s Lions Club President Sheila Lawson. Being part of a Lions club means having the opportunity to do something truly special: selflessly serve others.
