Pete Sessions (R-TX-17) Campaign Out Raises Runoff Opponent

Addresses Opponent Campaign’s Mistaken Fact-Telling

“My opponent’s campaign style of constant negative attack is why four of her peers from the March Republican Primary have endorsed me in this runoff,” said Republican candidate Pete Sessions today. Perhaps conservative Republican candidate George Hindman said it best, "Pete Sessions is the only remaining candidate that can unite Republicans from multiple factions in the community. Pete and his supporters spent their time in the primary talking about their campaign, not lying about their opponents. Furthermore, Pete has a better grasp on the issues facing our community and nation. Therefore, I endorse and will be voting for Pete Sessions in the runoff."

Facts from the FEC 3/31/2020 filing:

  • Pete Sessions’ net contributions for the cycle: $389,704; current period: $176,364

  • Renee Swann’s net contributions for the cycle: $216,853; current period: $129,077

  • Renee Swann’s personal loans to campaign: $454,000

  • Pete Sessions outraised Renee Swann in the filing period $176,364 to $129,077

  • Pete Sessions raised $66,000 from Texas employer based PACs

Federal Election Commission campaign finance reports for the quarter ending March 31, 2020 show Pete Sessions raising 80 percent more than his runoff opponent for the election cycle and 37 percent more for the reporting period. The vast majority of these donations came from persons living in Texas.

“I’m proud to have the support of small businesses such as home-builders and realtors, as well as medical professionals such as anesthesiologists,” Sessions said. “In these times, I’m particularly concerned about the continued success of American and Southwest Airlines employees, who number in the thousands in our state. Their support of my campaign is proof that I can work with them to help them recover from this virus-caused recession”

“As a Republican, I was disappointed by Renee Swann’s comments regarding the financial disclosure reported yesterday,” Sessions continued. “If there was ever a time when the nation needs to move away from typical political sniping, surely it is today.”

“I view this campaign as a forum to discuss ideas with the voters of TX-17 on how we can recover from the national shutdown, return our pharmaceutical supply chain back to the U.S., and restore growth in our economy.”

“These are the topics I will address for the next several weeks, leaving aside the typical campaign playbook and ignoring the issue of how Renee raises money,” Sessions concluded.
