Samaritan House operating through COVID closures

The Falls County Samaritan House has continued to operate their weekly food drives through the coronavirus pandemic. Depending on the week, Tuesdays and/or Thursdays see a multitude of community members lined up for hours waiting to receive their fares.

On Tuesday, May 28, volunteers serviced 274 families. On Thursday, June 4, they serviced 254 families.

In addition to the food drive, a program has been created to deliver the food left after each drive to those within the community who are unable to attend, referred to as “shut-ins.” Parcels are dropped at each person’s door, allowing no contact service where necessary.

The Samaritan House building sustained remarkable damage during the storm on May 27, delaying the reopening of the store, previously June 6. It is not yet known when the location will be open for business again.

Donations are still being taken and can be dropped off at the back door during business hours. All donations are tax deductible.

The Falls County Samaritan house is located at 154 Live Oak St in Marlin and can be reached at (254) 883-6877.
