Area Volleyball Teams Dive Into Weekend Tournament Play as Season Begins
Marlin
The Marlin Lady Bulldogs went 2-5 in the Cameron Yoe volleyball tournament this past weekend, picking up wins over the Holland Lady Hornets, and the Hubbard Lady Jaguars. The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Bellmead Tuesday to play the La Vega Lady Pirates at 6 p.m. On Thursday, the Lady Bulldogs will play in the Groesbeck Back to School Bash Tournament, with opening pool play matches against Covington at 9 a.m., Groesbeck JV at 11 a.m., and Bosqueville at noon. Friday matches begin with a 9 a.m. tilt with Gholson, followed by back-to-back matches with Centerville at 11 a.m., then host Groesbeck at noon.
Rosebud-Lott
Area volleyball teams jumped head first into the 2025 season, playing matches in various tournaments around the region. The Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars varsity and junior varsity teams both won their home openers, beating the Mart Lady Panthers. Both Lady Cougar teams won their matches in three sets last Tuesday night, to start the season at 1-0. Over the weekend, the hosted a tournament, finishing third with a tourney record of 5-1, and their season record goes to (61).The Lady Cougars are home Tuesday hosting Central Texas Christian Lady Lions, with JV playing at 5 p.m., and varsity starting at 6 p.m. On Friday, the varsity travels to Troy for a 4:30 p.m. match against the Lady Trojans.
Chilton
Tough weekend for the Chilton Lady Pirates, as they dropped a pair of matches in the Rosebud-Lott volleyball tournament. The Lady Pirates get back at it this week as they take part in the Groesbeck Back to School Bash Tournament this Thursday-Saturday. Chilton will play Centerville at 9 a.m. on Thursday, followed by back-to-back matches against Riesel at 11 a.m., then Palmer at noon. Friday, the Lady Pirates are slated to match up against the Blooming Grove Lady Lions at noon, then it’ll be Lady Pirates vs. Lady Pirates (Waco La Vega) at 5:30 p.m. in Groesbeck.
Cameron
The Lady Yoe (6-2) hosted an early season volleyball tournament, finishing third overall. The Lady Yoe took match wins over Marlin, Holland, and Dime Box, sweeping them all before battling against Thorndale in a hard fought match before falling 3-2. Cameron fell to Hillsboro 2-1, but bounced back to defeat Thorndale and Hubbard, sweeping both teams. Earlier in the week, The Lady Yoe defeated Granger, 3-1. Cameron will play again on Friday against Hearne at home, with the varsity match beginning at 6 p.m. The junior varsity Lady Yoe A team won their match over Thorndale, 2-0, and the JV B team took care of business with a 2-1 win over Thorndale.
Thorndale
Thorndale’s Lady Bulldogs opened volleyball season play this past week, falling to Copperas Cove in three sets. The Lady Bulldogs played in the Cameron Lady Yoe Volleyball Tournament over the weekend, falling to Thrall, 2-0, then picking up two wins over host Cameron, 3-2, and Dime Box, 2-0, before falling to the Lady Yoe on Saturday, 2-0. Thorndale will be back in action again on Tuesday with a home match against Lexington.
Milano
The Milano Lady Eagles played in the Rosebud- Lott Volleyball Tournament this past weekend, dropping a match to the host team, 2-0. They played against Mart later on, but as of presstime, no score or additional match scores have been reported. The Lady Eagles will be on the road this week, as they play against Mumford at 6 p.m. Tuesday, then Rockdale on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Rockdale Volleyball Tournament.
Buckholts
Not a bad week for the Lady Badgers, as they picked up an opening season win against Waelder, 3-0, to start the 2025 volleyball season at (1–0). Buckholts played in a tournament, and according to scores on the website MaxPreps, the Lady Badgers went (2-1), with their two wins against Mount Calm, 2-1, and Three-Way School, 2-0. The team will play again on Tuesday at home against MCA (Memorial Christian Academy), at 5 p.m.
