Boys & Girls Club Golf Tournament Slated for Saturday

The 13th Annual Falls County Boys & Girls Club Golf Tournament will be taking place this Saturday at Marlin Country Club (100 FCR 116 Marlin) and organization leaders are looking forward to a day of play that will raise considerable funds for the benefit of club members.

As of Friday, April 10, twelve four-person teams had signed up to participate in the tournament, an increase from seven in last year’s event. Registration remains open until 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

“Whoever shows up and wants to play, we are more than happy to have them there, because all the money raised goes back to the Boys and Girls Club,” said Event Co-Chair Jennifer Woycheshin. “It’s not just limited to Marlin kids, it’s any kid in Falls County that wants to be in the club.”

The cost is $400 per four-person team, or $100 per player. Teams can sponsor a hole for an additional $100. Individuals will be grouped into teams with other single players or incomplete teams of two or three to streamline play. Many teams return to participate every year.

“The guys get very competitive, and it’s a lot of fun every year,” said Woycheshin. “Instead of trophies, we give out rings kind of like Superbowl rings to winning teams. We have gold, silver, and bronze for first, second, and third, and our top sponsors also get rings.”

Holes throughout the course will have signage to feature the business or individual sponsor who contributed financially to the success of the event. Besides Hole or Event sponsorship, there are also special categories of sponsorship including Hole-in-One, Closest to the Hole, and Longest Drive.

Monica Cox, who began serving as the local Director of the Boys and Girls Club in February, will be experiencing the annual golf tournament for the first time this year.
