City of Marlin ‘20 Senior program gets first donation

Still needs donors to make it happen

The City of Marlin announced last week that they will be embarking on a journey to salute the Class of 2020 at Marlin ISD, since the seniors have missed out on the latter, more fun half of their academic year.

“We know how important graduation is and we want them all to know how very proud we are,” the announcement said.

The goal of the Adopt a Bulldog 2020 project is to create graduation gift baskets for each student, to be delivered to them during the month of May.

Jennifer Downes Bridges, Marlin’s code enforcement officer and official contact for the project, announced on Facebook on Friday, April 24, that the first donation has been received.

Kayci Mitchell-Nehring, the Falls County Tax Assessor-Collector, has offered to donate T-shirts for all the students. She is donating her time, talent, and the materials in order to craft enough for all the seniors.

The city is seeking donations of all kinds in order to get the basket filled.

“We would like to fill each basket with a class of 2020 T-shirt, a cup, graduation trinkets, snacks, gift cards, and, most importantly, notes of encouragement,” the announcement said.

If you do not feel comfortable giving cash, please feel free to purchase these items yourself to donate to the cause. Items can be donated singularly or in bulk. All donations will go towards the filling every basket to the brim.

“We really want  people to drop off notes; just a little note of encouragement,” Jennifer Bridges said.

“We want [the kids] to know that we do believe in them,” she continued.“We haven’t forgotten that this is their year.”

According to Bridges, the city plans to join forces with Marlin ISD in order to prevent the duplication of efforts.

Donations can be dropped off at the drive through window at the City of Marlin Water Department from 8 a.m  to 12 p.m. Monday through Friday. Both individuals and businesses will be recognized as donors. For more information, contact Jennifer Bridges at (254) 275-0065.
