The Marlin Democrat, Melinda Foster
“There is no price tag on lives.”
Marlin Fire Department Chief Justin Parker takes that quote very seriously.
Long before the tragedy in Franklin, Parker, along with others, were working on a severe-weather plan that included sirens. The sirens are basically a need for the city. The sirens would be used for warning the citizens of tornadoes, but also other severe weather and straight line winds.
In 2015, a critical-need request was submitted for three used sirens. The cost of used sirens can vary because they are rarely sold. Parker and others have been looking into grants from FEMA, Rural Development, HOT Council of Governments, funding and donations for the purchase.
