19th Annual Lions Club Car Show in Marlin: A sunny weekend day among great cars and trucks

They came to the courthouse square to save us all … from a still, burning, and otherwise uneventful Saturday. After preparations that began the year before, the Lions Club of Marlin delivered its beaming 19th Annual Car Show in the parking lot of Falls County Courthouse, on Saturday, June 11.

What a sight to feast upon for all! The variety reflected the size and diversity of the car world. In it, casual enthusiasts had a place to show off their pride and joy. For the serious high-dollar collectors, it was a chance to display the best of their bunch. Still others showcased their car and truck restorations and the quality of their work. Most importantly, it was about bringing car people of all stripes together to share their passion for automobiles.

The 19th Annual Lions Club Car Show was a public exhibition of current automobile models or out-of-production classics.

“We don’t just focus on exotic cars and unique cars, we do it because we love the atmosphere we create at each of our shows that bring creators, small businesses, friends, and family together! We love the constant growth of our community and the networks that are built from it,” explained Lion Car Show Committee Chair Judge Jay Elliott. “This car show makes possible the Lions Club’s scholarship fund for graduating seniors and more.”

The 19th Annual Lions Club Car Show was a community gathering providing a fun and positive atmosphere. Its expansive visual entertainment was a buffet for the automotive photographer.

“We absolutely love showcasing the best mix of muscle, imports, sports, supercars, and trucks,” Lion and organizer Mike Magouirk said. “After 19 years, it is gratifying to still be able to show off something cool or new in our shows. We diversify as much as possible but, thanks to our participants, at the same time a few key rare finds really stand out during each event, emphasizing what our car show really has to offer.”

Car shows also attract people who work on cars - professionally or as a hobby. Some folks bring a keen sense of history, fashion, or technology. And of course, with the wow factor of a bunch of gleaming cars even the attendee too young to drive is easily turned into a lifelong enthusiast.

The car show is a great place to learn more about cars. On this Saturday, one heard owners gladly telling others possibly more than they’d ever want to know about cars. There were detailing or repair tips, where to find parts, how to tell one vehicle from the next, a little history, or just swapping stories. There were new friends made or even finds of a vehicle for sale. One leaves a show knowing more about cars than one knew a few hours earlier!

Marlin’s Lions Club Car show is not a huge show when compared to Houston, but in this smaller local show, there have been plenty of conversations that stayed with persons longer than the memories of the cars themselves.

In addition to the judging and the awards, the whole point of this event is for the cars - many of which stay locked up out of sight for most of the year - to be seen and enjoyed by the public. Lions Club of Marlin extends its gratitude to the car and truck owners, even the motorcycle owner, for sharing their vehicles and making possible scholarship funds for graduating seniors.

Each show is different, but they’re all about bringing people together to celebrate cars and raising money for graduating seniors plus for many of the other benefits to the community for which the Lions Club is well-known.  At the end of the day, it’s a sunny weekend day among great cars and interesting people - what’s not to like?
