41st annual Cow Calf Clinic planned for January in Milam County

The Milam County Youth Exposition Building will be the location of the 2022 Central Texas Cow Calf-Clinic to be held on Thursday, Jan. 6. 

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the program slated to begin at 8 a.m. The program will conclude at 2:30 p.m. 

For 41 years Cattlemen in Central Texas have benefited from the quality research-based education this multi-county event provides.

The seminar will offer 2 hours of CEU’s (1-IPM & 1-General) for renewal of private applicator license and certificate holders. 

Speakers and topics will include: “2022 Beef Cattle Market Update & Outlook” – Dr. Jason Johnson; “Weed Identification & Herbicide Selection” – Dr. Barron Rector; “Visual Indicators of how your cattle are making it through the winter” – Dr. Jason Cleere; “Nutrition 101: The Importance of Feeding a Balanced Ration & Adding Value to Your Cow-Calf Operation” – Dr. Henry Hilscher; “Producer/Co-op Owned & Operated Processing Facilities” – Dr. Jade Cooper. This year’s event will also be adding a Plant I.D. and Cattle Body Condition Score Contest for all attendees. 

Information on contest subject matter will be discussed in presentations by Dr. Barron Rector and Dr. Jason Cleere. The contest will consist of plant samples and pens live cattle to be evaluated. Top 3 scores will receive a prize in the form of cash money with 1st place receiving $150, 2nd place $100, and 3rd place $75. 

As in years past the Clinic will host an industry trade show with vendors such as Livestock Nutrition Center, Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Assn., Bimeda, Capital Farm Credit, Texas Brangus Assn., Croprotek Insurance, Texas Beef Council, Classic Bank, Williamson County Tractor, and many more. 

Door prizes and special offers from these vendors will be drawn for at the conclusion of the day.

A registration fee of $20 will be charged. This fee offsets the cost of a catered lunch, refreshments, and printed materials handed out at the program. 

Pre-registration is important for an accurate meal count and to assure we have enough printed material. RSVP deadline will be Monday, Jan. 3.
