The Westphalia Knights of Columbus Council #13902  is sponsoring a Baylor Scott & White blood drive on Sunday, Jan. 22, at the Westphalia Parish Hall from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The council is providing a sausage and pancake breakfast, starting at 9 a.m. to anyone who signs up to give blood, as well as all parishioners of the Church of the Visitation. A photo ID is required to donate. To schedule your appointment go to BSWBLOOD.COM and find the Jan. 22 blood drive. Appointments are highly encouraged; walk-ins will be accepted as space allows. Give blood, the gift of life.

 

Otto Chili Supper

Otto Community Center will hold a Chili Supper on Jan. 27 from 5-8 p.m. Dine in or carry out. Adults $12, kids $6. Desserts for sale. Dine in gets free refills. The Center is located at 106 CR 1630 in Riesel.

 

East Side Water

Chase Your Shadow Fun Run

Mooreville Methodist Church’s annual Chase Your Shadow 5K Fun Run will be on Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fun run, bake sale, brunch and fellowship. Sign up until Jan. 20. Register online at www.RunSignUp.com and search Mooreville to find race. Register in person from 4-6 p.m. on Feb. 3 or 7-9:30 a.m. on Feb. 4 at the church, 206 FM 2843, Chilton. GriefShare

GriefShare, a special help seminar and support group for people experiencing grief over the loss of a loved one, will be held on Tuesday mornings, 10 a.m. to noon at the First Baptist Church in Marlin  beginning Jan. 24 – April 18, 2023.  GriefShare features nationally recognized experts via video on grief recovery topics.  Seminar sessions include “Is This Normal?” “The Challenges of Grief,” “Grief and Your Relationships,” “Why?” and “Guilt and Anger.” Meetings will be held in the Lamplighter’s Room of the church which is located at 309 Coleman Street in Marlin.  Registration fee is $20 which covers the cost of a workbook. Registration Open for Master Gardeners 2023 Class

If you love gardening and want to be a part of a great volunteer organization, then register for the upcoming Master Gardener training program.  Anyone from Milam and surrounding counties may register.  Classes will meet on Wednesday mornings beginning Feb. 1 through mid-May in Cameron. 

The program offers a minimum of 50 hours of instruction, including field trips. The fee for the class is $175, which includes The Master Gardener Handbook valued at $100, cost of tours, and other amenities.

Registrations must be received by January 15th.  The Master Gardener Association is affiliated with the Milam County AgriLife Extension Service.

 

Local Youth Program

Gospel Lighthouse Church invites all youths within the community to Foundation Youth, an hour and a half long time of games, food, fun, and fellowship. It takes place each Sunday evening from 5-6:30 p.m. at 1009 Live Oak in Marlin.

 

Computer classes

Computer Classes continue at the Marlin Library on Mondays at 10:30 a.m.

 

Story Time

Children’s Story Time returns to the Marlin Library on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

 

American Legion

Falls County American Legion Post 31 meets the second Monday of the month at 1 Mesquite Tree Lane at 6 p.m. Their phone number is (254) 883-5056.

 

Veterans Assistance

Caritas of Waco Inc. will be in Marlin every first and third Monday of the month as part of their Veterans Case Management Program: Assistance For Veterans / Outreach. After School Program

The Boys & Girls Club of Falls County has an after school program that offers things such as homework help, health and life skills, and individual tutoring. It is $20 per child. The program takes place at Marlin Elementary School. NAACP will meet every fourth Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Falconer Stamp Center on Durr Street.

Lions Club of Marlin will meet every second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 12 p.m. at the Chicken Place.
