COVID WALK/RUN

MTX Juneteenth Organization will host the Second Annual COVID Walk/Run. Registration is $20. Run and walk. Start from Marlin Courthouse on Saturday, Oct. 21, 8-10 a.m. Finish at Falls County Youth Pavilion Building at 319 Willis Street. Register by Oct. 4. Fish Fry

Mooreveille Methodist Church will hold its annual Fish Fry on Oct. 21 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Drive thru or dine in for $15 a plate. Fried catfish, hushpuppies, seasoned fries, pinto beans, coleslaw, cookies. Bake sale. The event is at 206 FM 2643 in Chilton.

 

phantom of the opera

The Historic Palace Theatre is showing the 1925 silent movie Phantom of the Opera accompanied by one of only three working theatre organs in the state of Texas.  It is an incredible event and will take place Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. The Palace invites the audience to come in costume with a prize going to best costume.  Light concessions will be available, and it is a BYOB event. Water and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Tickets are $15 and can purchased from our website palacetheatremarlin.com or at the door the evening of the performance. The Historic Palace Theatre is located at 133 Heritage Row Marlin, Texas.

SEMINAR

Surviving the Holidays is a helpful, encouraging seminar for people facing the holidays after a loved one’s death. The seminar features video interviews with counselors, grief experts, and other people who have experienced the holidays after their loved one’s death and who offer practical suggestions and reassurance. Those who attend will receive a Survival Guide filled with practical tips, encouraging words, journaling ideas, and exercises for daily help through the holiday season. The seminar will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to noon at the First Baptist Church in Marlin. Registration cost is $10, which includes refreshments and the Survival Guide. Austin Food Truck will be at the First Baptist Church/Golden Years parking lot on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 10-11 a.m.

American Legion

Falls County American Legion Post 31 meets the second Monday of the month at 1 Mesquite Tree Lane at 6 p.m. Their phone number is (254) 883-5056.

 

Marlin senior center

Marlin Senior Center hosts dominoes from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday and Thursday; Bingo from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday. The Jamboree is held every third Saturday from 6-9 p.m. There is no admission fee. The building is also available for rent. The fee is $200 a day and a $100 deposit.

 

Story Time

Children’s Story Time returns to the Marlin Library on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

 

NAACP

NAACP will meet every fourth Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Hitching Post on 5029 State Hwy 7.

 

After School 

Program

The Boys & Girls Club of Falls County has an after school program that offers things such as homework help, health and life skills, and individual tutoring. It is $20 per child. The program takes place at Marlin Elementary School. Lions Club meeting

Lions Club of Marlin will meet every second Tuesday of each month at 12 p.m. at the Chicken Place. 

 

Veterans Assistance

Caritas of Waco Inc. will be in Marlin every first and third Monday of the month as part of their Veterans Case Management Program: Assistance For Veterans / Outreach.
