DAR Meeting

The Sterling C. Robertson Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas will meet at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, at First Methodist Church Downtown Campus at 1300 Austin Avenue.  Dr. Diana Mason will present the program on the “First Texian Navy.” The meeting is free and open to the public.

 

Garage Sale and Bake Sale

Sacred Heart Altar Society of Lott will be having a huge garage and bake sale on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 7 a.m. to ? It will be held at the parish hall, 213 North 6th Street, Lott.  There will be baked goods, sandwiches, snacks, etc., as well as free coffee.  An enormous amount of clothing and household items will be available.  Many items for 25c;  everything is clean and cheap.  Funds raised help pay for items needed in the church and a scholarship fund.  Anyone wishing to donate to this worthy cause may call Dorothy Kohl (254) 584-3901 or Susan Michalewicz (254) 584-5651. 

 

Lott Ex-Students

The Lott Ex-Students Association has announced that their 71st Lott Homecoming will be held Oct. 8 after an absence of two years. All ex-students, family and friends, are encouraged to attend the event which was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 because of COVID concerns. It will be held on the school property which was purchased by R&R Properties two years ago, and has been totally remodeled. The old cafeteria and gym are now part of the new Event Center. Registration will begin at 10 a.m., a delicious catered BBQ meal at 12 and a meeting at 1 p.m. After the meeting, everyone is encouraged to visit the new Memory Room (which is now on the ground floor) and stay for visiting until 6 p.m. Meal tickers are $15 and tickets will be sold in advance with a deadline of October 1 by mailing checks payable to the Association to Treasurer, Ann Thrasher, P.O. Box 172, Lott, TX 76656. RSVPs and advance sale of meal tickets is necessary for head counts for space preparation and the caterer. Association officers are President John Self, Vice President Roy Renfro, Secretary Claudie K. Shelton and Treasurer Ann Thrasher.

 

Marlin High School Class of 1972 50th Reunion

Marlin High School Class of 1972 will hold its 50th Reunion on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, at 5 p.m. at Marlin Men’s Civic Association, 116 N. Business Hwy 6, Marlin, TX 76661. Mooreville Fish Fry

Mooreville Methodist Church’s Fish Fry is set for Oct. 15 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Drive thru or dine-in. Cost is $15 a plate for fried catfish, hushpuppies. slaw, and potatoes. Live auction at 6:30 p.m.

 

Fish Fry

A drive-through Fish Fry will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 4-6 p.m. (or until sold out) at the St. Paul Community Church parsonage. Plates will be $15 and proceeds will support the restoration of historic St. Paul church at 212 FM 2307, 5 miles north of Marlin off Hwy. 6.

Fundraiser

A fundraiser for the Marlin Senior Civic Center will be held on Friday, Oct. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 104 Hays Street in Marlin. Pork loin plates with pork loin and gravy, spaetzle, green beans, dessert and tea for $12 donation. Eat  in or carry out. 

 

GRIEFSHARE SEMINAR

Surviving the Holidays is a helpful, encouraging seminar for people facing the holidays after a loved one’s death.  The seminar features video interviews with counselors, grief experts, and other people who have experienced the holidays after their loved one’s death and who offer practical suggestions and reassurance. Those who attend will receive a Survival Guide filled with practical tips, encouraging words, journaling ideas, and exercises for daily help through the holiday season.  The seminar will be held Saturday, October 29, 10 a.m. to noon at the First Baptist Church in Marlin. Computer classes

Computer Classes continue at the Marlin Library on Mondays at 10:30 a.m.

 

American Legion

Veterans Assistance

Caritas of Waco Inc. will be in Marlin every first and third Monday of the month as part of their Veterans Case Management Program: Assistance For Veterans / Outreach. After School Program

The Boys & Girls Club of Falls County has an after school program that offers things such as homework help, health and life skills, and individual tutoring. It is $20 per child. The program takes place at Marlin Elementary School. NAACP will meet every fourth Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Falconer Stamp Center on Durr Street.
