Meet and Greet

Meet and hear from the candidates running for State House District 13 and District 56.

 On November 8, 2022, voters in Texas House District 13 and District 56 will elect a State Representative.  

“We Deserve Better GPAC” and the Senate District 22 State Democratic Executive Committee Man, Thom Hanson, and McLennan County Democratic Chair Mark Hayes invite you and the public to attend the TXHD13 candidates debate on September 24, 2022, between Erin Shank (D) and Charles “Doc” Anderson (R), candidates for State House District 56. The debate will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be followed by the State House District 13 debate, between Cedric Davis Sr. (D) and Angela Orr (R) which will begin at 4:30 pm. The debates will be held in the East Waco Multi-Purpose Center at 1020 Elm Ave, Waco.  (Doors open at 2:00 pm).  Both candidates for each district have been invited to participate.

The event is free and open to the public. The candidates will answer questions from the moderators, David Schleicher, a local lawyer and former elected at-large member of the Waco School Board and the legendary Hon. Judge Morris L. Overstreet, the first African American elected to statewide office in the history of Texas in 1990 when he was elected to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, with our Host, Patricia Chisholm-Miller, Mclennan County Commissioner.

Community Public Health Expo

A Community Public Health Expo is set for Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to  p.m. at the Booker T. Washington Alumni Bldg., 216 Falls Street in Marlin. All ages are invited for free health screenings. Senior Fun Day

Marlin Seniors will sponsor a day of fun, fellowship and games on Sept. 29 at the Marlin Senior Civic Center, 104 Hay Street, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

 

Voter Registration Drive

ST. PAUL CHURCH ORGANIZES DAY TRIP

St. Paul Church is planning a trip to the Schulenburg area on Oct. 4 to see the highly acclaimed Painted Churches of Texas. These beautifully adorned churches, built more than 100 years ago by Czech and German immigrants, have been featured in numerous publications and television programs.  The day trip, led by M&M Tours of Hewitt, will pick passengers up at St. Paul Church, 212 FM 2307, 5 miles north of Marlin.  It includes transportation in a deluxe motor coach and lunch at the Oakridge Smokehouse in Schulenburg.  A portion of the proceeds will benefit the restoration of the historic St. Paul church building.  For more information, call 1-800-700-9620 or email rememberstpaul@yahoo.com.

 

Garage Sale and Bake Sale

Sacred Heart Altar Society of Lott will be having a huge garage and bake sale on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 7 a.m. to ? It will be held at the parish hall, 213 North 6th Street, Lott.  There will be baked goods, sandwiches, snacks, etc., as well as free coffee.  An enormous amount of clothing and household items will be available.  Many items for 25c;  everything is clean and cheap.  Funds raised help pay for items needed in the church and a scholarship fund.  Anyone wishing to donate to this worthy cause may call Dorothy Kohl (254) 584-3901 or Susan Michalewicz (254) 584-5651. 

 

Marlin High School Class of 1972 50th Reunion

Marlin High School Class of 1972 will hold its 50th Reunion on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, at 5 p.m. at Marlin Men’s Civic Association, 116 N. Business Hwy 6, Marlin, TX 76661. Oktoberfest Fundraiser

A fundraiser for the Marlin Senior Civic Center will be held on Friday, Oct. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 104 Hays Street in Marlin. Pork loin plates with pork loin and gravy, spaetzle, green beans, dessert and tea for $12 donation. Eat  in or carry out. 

 

Local Youth Program

Gospel Lighthouse Church invites all youths within the community to Foundation Youth, an hour and a half long time of games, food, fun, and fellowship. It takes place each Sunday evening from 5-6:30 p.m. at 1009 Live Oak in Marlin.

 

Computer classes

Computer Classes continue at the Marlin Library on Mondays at 10:30 a.m.

 

Story Time

Children’s Story Time returns to the Marlin Library on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

 

American Legion

Veterans Assistance

Caritas of Waco Inc. will be in Marlin every first and third Monday of the month as part of their Veterans Case Management Program: Assistance For Veterans / Outreach. After School Program

The Boys & Girls Club of Falls County has an after school program that offers things such as homework help, health and life skills, and individual tutoring. It is $20 per child. NAACP will meet every fourth Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Falconer Stamp Center on Durr Street.
