Birdwell announces new Chief of Staff

State Senator Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury) announced the promotion of his Natural Resources & Economic Development (NRED) Committee Director, JW Galloway, to Chief of Staff, effective September 2, 2022. Galloway will be elevated to assume the duties of Birdwell’s current Chief of Staff, HW Dickey, who has been on Birdwell’s team since 2020.

In announcing his departure, Dickey commented, “In early August, I let Senator Birdwell know that my wife and I had made the decision to return to Tyler. Most of my family is from Tyler, Texas, and the decision to move back to this region was fueled by considerations for our young children and my aging parents. It pains me to leave because I’ve loved my time with Senator Birdwell, but I ultimately had to make the best decision for my family.”

“While I am disappointed to lose HW, his motivations for returning to Tyler are certainly understandable. He and his wife will be closer to familial support in East Texas and we wish them the best in the next phase of their lives,” said Birdwell.

Dickey’s replacement—Galloway—has worked in the NRED Committee since early-2020. Galloway is a Capitol veteran and is preparing for his seventh legislative session. Most recently he worked for Sen. Paul Bettencourt before joining Sen. Birdwell’s team. Birdwell added, “JW Galloway brings years of experience and knowledge in the Texas Legislature. I have the utmost confidence in his capabilities as a staff member and his leadership of my team.”

“I am extremely grateful to Senator Birdwell for the trust he’s shown in me to lead one of the most hard-working teams in the Texas Capitol,” Galloway said. “I will do everything I can in this new role to help him continue the tradition of principled, conservative leadership that the people of Senate District 22 have come to expect.”

In the final months leading into the 88th legislative session, Birdwell will issue a press release sharing with constituents a complete staff list for his Capitol, district and committee offices.
