Bulldog Homecoming

Throughout the week of September 11 through September 15, the community of Marlin and its students celebrated its annual homecoming week. Starting bright and early Monday morning the festivities were already well underway as the students from all campuses in the district celebrated in very different and unique ways for each day of the week leading up to the big homecoming game last Friday night.

The elementary students especially had a blast throughout the week, particularly on Tuesday when they all celebrated and dressed up for 60’s/70’s day. Where tie dye t-shirts and flower headbands could be seen at every turn and every corner of the school.

Prior to that on Monday they enjoyed 50’s day, then again on Wednesday it was all about the raging 80’s and 90’s.

Also throughout the week former graduating classes and current students worked very hard to prepare for the homecoming pep rally, which began at 2:15 p.m., and homecoming parade.

All of the students, faculty, parents and past classes gathered into the high school gym to celebrate their beloved school, community and to cheer their Bulldogs on to victory.

Following the pep rally was the school parade that began with the line up in front of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church directly off of Winter Street. They rode all throughout the main parts of town, displaying their pride with handmade banners and signs that boldly showed off the school colors of purple and gold.

During the parade graduating classes and former students from the years of 1977,1987,1997,1992 and 2007.

As the parade rode around town the participants, that included this year’s homecoming court, tossed around sweet treats for the onlookers and their little ones.

As the parade came to its conclusion, everyone went their own way until later that evening where they would all come back together at Legion Field for the game and announcement of the 2017 king and queen.

Though the Bulldogs would eventually drop the hard fought game to the Eagles of Rogers, their efforts did not go unnoticed by anyone who attended. During halftime it was announced that the 2017 Homecoming King and Queen were none other than Vanassa Vilchis and Sevastion Hernandez, the couple was of course more than honored to receive their new titles.

Homecoming week went very well despite to upset to Rogers on Friday night.
