Cattle Theft Guilty Verdict

Reid Austin Gathings, 38, from Marlin, was found guilty by a Falls County Jury for the theft of 17 head of cattle stolen on January 11, 2016, a thrid Degree Felony. DA Jody Gilliam and ADA John Redington presented the State’s case, which began on May 2. District Judge Robert Stem presided over the case.

The State presented evidence through Special Ranger Marvin Wills of the Texas Southwest Cattlemen’s Association, who testified he was notified by the owner of the cattle she had found her cattle missing and, through her own investigation, learned the cattle had been hauled to the Waco Livestock Auction where they had been sold by Gathings two weeks earlier.
