Celebrating the Red Horse Unit

Congressman Pete Session flew in from Washington to present the Congressional Record from the House of Representatives recognizing the United States Air Force 555th Civil Engineering Squadron Red Horse Unit recently. He also presented the squadron with a flag that flew at the capital earlier the same day. Congressman Sessions also became a candidate for the open Speaker of the House position before he left for Marlin. Rogers Craig shared memories of the Red Horse Squadron in Vietnam (1968-69). Marlin Mayor Susan Byrd presented a proclamation declaring Oct. 21, 2023, as Red Horse Squadron Day in Marlin. She previously had proclaimed October as Red Horse Squadron Month in Marlin. Craig accepted the proclamation on behalf of the Red Horse Squadron. Mike Williams created and presented metal red horses to all of the Red Horse Squadron veterans. A separate special ceremony was held for the eight deceased members of the Red Horse Squadron. There are still 12 survivors. The eight downturned stein mugs represent each deceased veteran. Each one had his name called and the stein is removed from the table and saluted as a bell rings.
