Children with Visions of Peace

For over three decades, Lions clubs around the globe have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools and youth groups. Creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity.

Children know how powerful compassion can be. They are often able to express this feeling more openly than adults. In October 2021, Lions Club of Marlin invited young people to explore and visually express the peaceful future that compassionate leadership brings.

Students ages 11, 12 or 13 were eligible to participate in the International Peace Poster Contest. Twelve (12) Marlin Middle School students in the Art Class of Mr. Alfonso Weems, each with a kit successfully completed, submitted their Peace Posters to Lions Club International.

On Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, a presentation was made during Marlin Middle School general assembly by Assistant Principal Ortega McDavid to the students who had participated in the Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest. Sponsored Award recipients of the 2022 Lions Peace Poster Contest at Marlin Middle School were as follows: Isabel Gonzalez, Emily Galvan, Yarida DeLeon, Mauricio Rincon, Jamyriya Wilson, Jalisha Degrate, and Joe Tolinson.

Marlin Lions Club President John Armstrong presented an additional Distinguished Honor of Third Place in the Lions District MD2-x3 and $150 Award to Yarida DeLeon, Yarida DeLeon is the daughter of Zamuido and Jose DeLeon.

“This art project increased our scholars’ confidence and creativity. Scholars were able to understand themselves and their world. Thanks, Marlin Lions Club, for bringing such a great opportunity to our scholars at Marlin Middle School.” explained Assistant Principal McDavid.

This Tabletop Exhibit was a great way to draw additional attention to the contest, and encourage others to get involved.

Lions Club of Marlin applauds the dedicated and consistent efforts of Ms. Sonia Ponce, a member to Lions Club and Lions Club Peace Poster Project Chair in Marlin.
