Choosing to help of their own accord
Meet Derinda Austin, Diana Fox, Olga Rosas, and Bettye Tarver. These four ladies from the Falls Community ARC Coalition expressed generosity and joy in giving. Last week, they presented Nurse Judy of Marlin Elementary School (second from left) five large red bags filled with clothing and underclothing for Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First Grade children. These items are used in the case of any accident that requires a change of clothing.
It all started with communication, expressing needs, finding resources, coming up with a plan. It culminated in this, just one of many acts of generosity taking place throughout Falls County.
Not surprisingly, the generosity of empathetic men and women is contagious. It can propagate within social circles, workplaces, and churches. It has been happening throughout history, generous and empathetic women and men choosing to help of their own accord!
Why? There are benefits of volunteering: developing new skills and work experience, making new friends, and improving personal mental and physical health. But in even one selfless act of generosity of time, talent, and treasure, well, there is an indescribable joy in seeing beyond one’s own needs and considering the well-being of others.
Abraham Lincoln stated, “First determine that the thing can and shall be done and then…find a way.”
This is the commitment and energy of the members of the Falls Community ARC Coalition. They care and they are dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities in Falls County. Membership is open, everyone has something to share with the Falls Community.
The Falls Community ARC Coalition meets the first Tuesday of every month at noon at The Chicken Place in Marlin.
