Commissioners adopt abatement for solar project, lift burn ban

Falls County Commissioners continued the lifted burn ban through June 13 during their meeting on Monday, May 23.

Commissioners met at the County Courthouse with County Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Present were Commissioners Milton Albright (Pct. 1), F.A. Green (Pct. 2), and Jason Willberg (Pct. 3) and Nita Wuebker (Pct. 4).

It was moved by Commissioner Green and seconded by Commissioner Wuebker that the Juneteenth Club, a recipient of the American Rescue Plan grant, receive $2,500 of the requested partial funds, prior to the proposed August grant distribution. It was approved so that the monies may be used for the 2022 Juneteenth celebration. The organization will still be held accountable for completing the incomplete application process by Aug. 1.

After much discussion, Commissioner Albright moved to adopt the Tax Abatement Agreement with True North Solar, L.L.C. for the construction of a solar power generating project with an estimated cost of $302,600. Seconded by Commissioner Green, the motion carried. Jeff Jackson, Road & Bridge administrator updated the Commissioners on the progress of the Interlocal Agreement with the City of Marlin. Focus streets include Ward Street, Park Street and Donohoo Street and additional funds are necessary.

In other matters, actions on several items were approved including the contractual TxCDBG Request for Payment with Grantworks and Construction Contract Change Order concerning TxCDBG. The Court approved paying the Tax Office Parks & Wildlife back payments, 2018-2022. Kayci Nehring was appointed to calculate the effective Falls County tax rate and Falls County lateral road for the tax year 2022.  

Commissioners approved the purchase of a new computer for the Extension Office. Pasquale Swaner, County Coordinator, was reminded since county funds will be used for purchase, he must complete the annual County Computer Cyber Test. The distribution of permanent school funds was approved totaling $273,734.95. Concerning indigent care, the Court approved the payment of $37,000 to the Falls Community Hospital and Clinic. County Auditor was approved to select a county credit card for purchases. 

After Milton Albright motioned to approve the paying of bills and with no further business, the meeting adjourned.
