Commissioners discuss several topics

The Falls County Commissioners Court met at the County Courthouse in Marlin on Monday, April 24, with County Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Commissioners present were F. A. Green (Pct. 2), Jason Willberg (Pct. 3) and Nita Wuebker (Pct. 4). Milton Albright (Pct. 1) was not in attendance.

Discussion and approval of agenda items included the County Officials’ bonds, authorization to execute the Bank Depository Contract with Cadence Bank and a two-year service contract with Guardian Security Service.

Commissioner Wuebker moved to accept the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) Falls County Election Equipment Security Expenditures report. Seconded by Commissioner Green, the motion was carried.  Commissioners approved a $1,500 budget for the County Tax Office to purchase preferably colored envelopes for tax statements. Also approved was a Boating Access Grant Resolution which would provide construction of a ramp facility on the Brazos River at Falls on Brazos Park. Funds will be provided through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

In other matters, the Commissioners approved to participate in the Texas SmartBuy Membership Program of the Texas Controller of Public Accounts. Also approved was the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Working Protocols/Guidelines for the Children’s Advocacy Center program including a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Commissioner Wuebker moved to authorize Mundo and Associates, Inc. to prepare the Broadband infrastructure program application for the “Bring Online Opportunities to Texas (BOOT) as the Project Administration Contract and the Reporting Contract on behalf of Falls County at no cost to the county. Seconded by Commissioner Green, motion carried. 

To ensure Falls County adheres to the law, John Redington, ADA, presented an Order confirming the composition of the Falls County Election Board and Order confirming the appointment of the Falls County Election Commission. Commissioner Green moved to approve both orders. Seconded by Commissioner Willberg, motion carried.

Jeff Jackson, Road & Bridge Administrator, noted work funded through the American Rescue Plan, will be initiated on Bridge 124 starting May 1, 2023. Jackson reported the county still has work to do because of the recent storms. He is pursuing the purchase of 4-wheel drive pickup for the county.

Commissioner Green moved to pay all bills, payroll, and budget amendments. Seconded by Commissioner Willberg, motion carried. Commissioned Wuebker moved to approve the April 17 minutes, seconded by Commissioner Green, motion carried.  With no further agenda items, the meeting was adjourned by County Judge Elliott.
