Commissioners post petition to close CR 4040

The Falls County Commissioner’s Court voted to post a Notice of Petition to close County Road 4040 in Satin during their regularly scheduled meeting on the morning of Dec. 9.

The petition suggests closing the road from County Road 4039 to the current dead end.

The rest of the road was previously closed sometime in April by a petition of the gentleman who then owned property up until the dead end. As of now, the same gentleman has purchased the additional land and has started the process again for the additional 160 feet of road to be closed off.

No action has been taken concerning closing the road, but this will be touched on again in January, after the notice has been posted for more than 30 days.

Representatives James Guest and Tony Gattlin from Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP., were on site, detailing the current plan for bids at The City of Marlin’s next property sale for commissioners to approve.

Linebarger is the law firm who handles tax sales, foreclosure sales, and resales/etc for The City of Marlin.

With approval, it would allow the firm to set opening bids below the suggested 25 percent of original value and to continue with process of planning the sale, which currently set for sometime in February 2020 according to Guest. The motion carried unanimously.

The Tax Abatement Agreement with OCI Sol LLC for property on Highway 77 in Falls County was approved as well.

CORRECTION

The article on the front page of last week’s Marlin Democrat detailing Thor, the Falls County K-9, heading home was incorrect. The Falls County Commissioners did not yet take a vote on it, but decided to table the discussion until more detailed information has been received from the Falls County Sheriff’s Department. There is a possibility it may happen, but no action has been taken at this time.
