Commissioners prohibit TikTok on county devices

The Falls County Commissioners Court met at the County Courthouse on Monday, Aug. 14, with County Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Commissioners present were Milton Albright (Pct. 1), F.A. Green (Pct. 2), Jason Willberg (Pct. 3) and Nita Wuebker (Pct. 4). 

The Commissioners approved the transferring of jail payroll funds to cover jail repair expenses. In addition, Falls County is eligible for funding through the Texas Department of Agriculture Texans Feeding Texans: Home Delivered Meal Grant Program to provide home delivered meals in Falls County to seniors or disabled individuals through the Waco Meals on Wheels program. The resolution authorizing such was approved by the Commissioners.

The Imposition of Optional Fees guidelines for the 2024 calendar year were discussed. The Commissioners approved to notify the TXDMV each year regarding the imposition or removal of optional fees by September 1 with new fees effective January the following year. 

The Commissioners also agreed to provide Falls County employees with a uniform format for dealing with various employment related issues. Falls County prohibits the installation or use of the social media service TikTok or any successor application or service developed or provided by ByteDance Limited on any County device and required current removal of covered applications from those devices. Falls County supervisors do not engage in social media activities with their employees.

In other matters, the Commissioners approved to accept the Heart of Texas Council of Governments Interlocal Agreements for E9-1-1 Database Maintenance Services and Public Safety and Public Safety Answering Point Services for the biennium from September 2023 to August 31, 2025. Commissioners approved the purchase of a plat cabinet for the County Clerk’s Office utilizing the records management funds. 

The Commissioners approved the proposed Brandt Companies, L.L.C. work schedule and cost of $9,078 for work to be performed at the County Jail including installation of exhaust fan for electrical room. The Commissioners also accepted $1000 donation for Falls on the Brazos grant. It was moved and seconded to approve the interlocal agreement for assessment and collection of taxes for Chilton and Rosebud ISD. 

Other matters approved were the contract with AVENu Enterprise Solutions, to add Commissioner Court Module for the County Clerk’s office from the County Clerk’s records management fund. Motion carried and was accepted. County bonding was approved for additional employees who work with money including Darrien Wallace, Keaton Smith, Virden Hill, and Sharon Scott.

A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes from the prior meeting, with no further discussion, the meeting went into another session discussing the 2023-24 budget. Due to no quorum, there will not be a Special Budget meeting Thursday, Aug. 17. The Budget meeting will resume Aug. 21, 2023.
