COVID-19 cases up 50 percent since Aug 1

The coronavirus case count in Falls County is at a total of 166 cases as of Aug 31, according to state data. On Aug 1, there were only 110 cases, meaning that the total case count has risen by nearly 51 percent. Of the 166, there have been 135 recoveries and three deaths so far. There are 28 active cases. 

Robertson, Falls, Milam, and Limestone counties all have similar population sizes and have been heavily compared in past weeks.

Milam County has the least number of active cases, at only 13. There have been 412 recoveries and 5 deaths, bringing the total to 430 total cases. This is up by about 40 percent since the start of August. Milam county saw their first spike at the start of the pandemic; one Limestone County is experiencing now. 

Limestone has a whopping 109 active cases, with 268 recovered. There have been a total of seven deaths, also the largest of the four counties. The current case total 384 shows an increase of 93 percent, almost doubling the number of cases in a single month. 

Though Limestone and Robertson Counties held out with synonymous rates of increase for months at a time, Robertson is now starkly opposite of Limestone’s climbing rate. With only 13 active cases and four deaths, the county has a total of 248 cases. The number of cases increased by 40 percent, rising from 219 on Aug. 1. 

Texas cases near 613,000, though more than 500,000 of those cases have recovered. There are about 93,000 active cases throughout the state, with only three counties still unaffected by the virus. 

Case numbers have risen at a much slower rate than past months, where daily case counts broke 10,000. Up from 430,000, the State of Texas has increased by 42 percent and now has over 20 cases per 1,000 people across all 254 counties.
