COVID-19 rise in line with surrounding counties

Falls County has had fewer and fewer instances of coronavirus diagnosis in the last few weeks. The numbers are now sysnonymous to the surrounding counties of Milam and Limestone. All three counties have seen an average rise of four percent since the start of september, though total and active numbers are shockingly different.

Falls County has 174 cases, only 31 of which are still active. There have been 140 recoveries and 3 deaths. There are about 10.5 cases per thousand people in the county.

Robertson County happens to have the least amount of active cases between the four, with only 14 as of Sept. 7. With a total of 254 cases, Robertson has only seen three additional cases in the last week, which is only a one percent increase. There have been 236 recoveries with a total of four deaths recorded. There are about 15 cases per 1,000 people.

Milam County has just a couple more active cases than Roberston, at 18. Milam county had a spike early on, but has gotten their numbers under control. There have been 424 recoveries and 5 deaths, bringing total cases to 447. There are just over 18 cases per 1,000 people.

Limestone County has the highest number of active cases and now has the highest number of total cases as well. There were 479 cases on Sept 7, with 338 recovered and 133 Active The county has recorded the most deaths of the four, with eight on file according to DSHS.

Testing among the four counties has gone up by more than 25 percent in all four counties, with the percentage almost tripling in Limestone County.

The State of Texas has seen a similar increase in testing, but cases are starting to slow, as are deaths. With Labor Day weekend on the helm, State officials worry that numbers will begin to rise again in two weeks time. Hospitality rates have dropped by over 50 percent.

Texas has had over 640,000 cases, with nearly 100,000 unrecovered. About 13,500 of those have been deaths.

Case numbers have also begun to grow on college campuses around the state, with data showing that more and more universities are coming up positive. There is contention around sports seasons and how to move forward, even on a high school level, but few events have been cancelled entirely.

There has been talk among officials that there may be a coronavirus vaccine coming in October of this year, but it is not yet known how accurate that prediction is. It has been stated that priority for vaccination will be the same as was for testing in the midst of the outbreak. Those at risk will be given higher priority.
