COVID-19 spike in Falls County; 130 new cases Monday

Monday Oct. 5 was a big day for Falls County’s coronavirus positivity rate, succeeding in tripling the record for the number of cases identified in one day. There were 130 new cases, bringing the total number of cases in Falls County to 436.

Falls County currently has the highest number of active cases yet, with an estimated 224 people presently contagious. There have been about 200 recoveries and five deaths since March.

Testing numbers significantly jumped in September, totalling more than 5,000 on Oct. 5.

Falls County has succeeded Robertson County in the total number of cases. Of 328, the County had 44 active Monday, with only three deaths so far. Recovered individuals total 281 for Robertson County.

Limestone County has the highest total number of cases of the surrounding counties, nearing 600. Of the 591 infected individuals, 524 have recovered, 52 are still active cases, and 15 have suffered a fatal end. There have been more than 6,000 tests performed in the County.

While most records, including Falls County numbers, continue to climb, Milam County seems to have it under control. According to the Department of StateHealth Services, Milam County had zero active cases Monday, with only six deaths out of 511 positive cases.

Texas is one of only three states reporting lower coronavirus rates, despite the spike in Central Texas.

Total cases are starting to approach 800,000, with deaths more than three-quarters of the way to 20,000. Nearly 7.2 million tests have been performed in Texas alone, that number growing astronomically at a national level.

The White House had a hard hit this week from Coronavirus as well, with a number of employees, including U.S. President, Donald Trump, testing positive for COVID-19. Just days after travelling and speaking to the public, Trump was admitted to Walter Reed Hospital, where he spent four days. He was released Monday afternoon after a number of experimental treatments were performed.

His current condition is unknown, but additional officials have been named as infected with COVID-19 since Trump’s diagnosis.
