Disaster declaration extended again

City of Marlin under Disaster until May 7

Marlin Mayor Carolyn Lofton signed a declaration extending the State of Disaster for the City of Marlin until May 7 on April 30.

This is the second time that the state of disaster has been extended. During April’s City Council meeting, it was unanimously voted upon to extend the original March 17 declaration until April 30.

The extension declaration states that “it shall continue in effect until such time as the COVID-19 Disaster Declaration issued by Texas Governor Greg Abbott on March 13, 2020, expires or is withdrawn, unless sooner terminated by executive order of the Mayor.”

Without another meeting of the City Council, Lofton has the authority to extend the State of Disaster for up to seven days. It is not yet known if it will be necessary to extend it again before the upcoming City Council meeting on May 12.

On April 12, Abbott extended the March 13 declaration until May 12, but according to City Manager Cedric Davis, there is hope that his declaration may be terminated before that date.
