Emergency Services District 1 holds meeting

Emergency Service District 1 (ESD) met Tuesday, April 18, at the Falls County Hospital and Clinic Conference Room, President Wayne Young presiding. 

Debbie Nowaski read the minutes from the previous meeting. Sandra Weathers presented the Treasurer report.

Falls County has three ESD’s whose leadership previously met to discuss American Medical Response (AMR) Ambulatory Services and how the expenses would be allocated by each district. The $400,008 AMR service contract runs from Jan. 1, 2023 to Dec. 31, 2023. After much discussion, it was settled ESD #1 will pay $240,008 (60 percent) with the 40 percent balance distributed between ESD 2 (Chilton) and ESD 3 (Rosebud). This will ensure one ambulance to serve the entire Falls County for one year. The contract has been signed.

To support Falls County Emergency Service District 1, there is a Special Election, Saturday, May 6. This will increase the tax cap from 3 cents per $100 to 10 cents per $100.  Early voting dates and times are April 24 to April 28 and May 1-2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Locations will be closed for lunch 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Early voting will be at the Courthouse Annex in the Industrial Park. The May 6 voting will be available at the Booker T. Washington Alumni Association building on Charles Street and the First Methodist Church on Coleman Street, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

ESD 1 next meeting will be Tuesday, May 16, at 5:30 p.m. at Falls County Hospital and Clinic Conference Room.
