Falls County Commissioners award non-profits

Falls County Commissioners awarded 16 Falls County non-profit organizations and businesses with American Rescue Funds during their meeting on Monday.

The Commissioners met at the County Courthouse in Marlin with County Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Commissioners present were Milton Albright (Pct. 1), F.A. Green (Pct. 2), and Jason Willberg (Pct. 3) and Commissioner Nita Wuebker (Pct. 4).

Over $611,000 was awarded to 16 Falls County non-profit organizations and businesses through the American Rescue Plan. The list includes Allen House, Boys & Girls Club, Chilton VFD, Faith, Hope, and Charity, Falconer Stamp Center, Falls County GO Texan, Falls County Youth Fair, Golinda VFD, Marlin Texas Juneteenth Organization, Levi WSC, Lott VFD, Marlin Men’s Civic Association, Marlin Public Library, Meals on Wheels, Mooreville WSC and Reagan VFD. 

Commissioners approved to keep the burn ban in effect until Sept. 12, 2022. Outdoor burning is prohibited in the unincorporated area of the County. In accordance with Local Government Code, a violation of this Order is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.

In other matters, Commissioners approved related dates for the Order of Election for the November General Election for County Officers. Because the City of Golinda does not have the operating equipment nor funds to cover the costs of repairs, the Commissioners approved the Interlocal Cooperation Agreement with the City of Golinda and Falls County. Also approved was the purchase of three Adobe software programs and updates for the Falls County District Clerk’s office. The Commissioners approved 165-hour law enforcement pay cycle effective January 2023. In addition, approved was an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement between McLennan County and Falls County where as needed, McLennan County will provide housing and care for certain inmates incarcerated or to be incarcerated in the county jail.

It was announced the Falls County Free Trash Day is Saturday, Oct. 8, from 8 a.m. to noon. Two locations will be Falls County Jail Site & Waste Collection Station in Lott. Tires, chemical, roofing materials and hazardous waste will not be accepted.

Commissioners approved the payment of bills, including reimbursements, late charges, the transfer of cash or funds form any line item or department to another, book transfers and budget amendments. 

The 2022-23 budget, including anticipated income and expenses, the Falls County Detention Center; departmental line items; all funds, including general and Farm-to-Market Lateral Road Fund, upcoming year’s Appraisal District Budget, fees for processing payroll and other relevant fees concerning the budget, was discussed.  

Also approved was the filing of the proposed 2022-2023 budget and setting date of public hearing, recorded vote on consideration of proposed tax rate 2022-2023, and publishing of public notice and setting of public hearing on Monday, Sept. 12, at 9 a.m. The adoption of the budget for fiscal year 2022-2023 and the adoption of the tax rate increase will be Monday, Sept. 12, as well. 

The tax rate has been lowered to .81591 cents from .93061 cents per $100 valuation. This budget will raise more revenue from property taxes than last year’s budget by an amount of $985,845, which is an 11.50 percent increase. The minutes from the prior meeting were approved.
