Falls County Commissioners extend burn ban until Aug. 8 at least

The Falls County Commissioners Court met at the County Courthouse on Monday, July 25, with County Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Present were Commissioners Milton Albright (Pct. 1), F.A. Green (Pct. 2), and Jason Willberg (Pct. 3). Commissioner Nita Wuebker (Pct. 4) was absent.

Commissioner Willberg moved to approve sponsorship of Chilton Water Supply and Sewer Service Corporation and participation in the 2023-24 Texas Community Development Block Grant Program administered through the Texas Dept. of Agriculture and to authorized requests for administrative services and qualifications re: RFQ. Seconded by Commissioner Green, motion carried. 

Commissioner Albright moved to adopt a resolution and order approving Road Use Agreement with True North Solar, LLC. Seconded by Commissioner Green, motion carried. 

Judge Elliot briefly discussed the American Rescue Plan recommending $150,000 to be allocated toward Falls on the Brazos Park. Commissioner Albright moved to approve recommendation, seconded by Commissioner Green. Motion carried. Judge Elliott noted some of the non-profit businesses approved for the grant funds were having trouble obtaining the SAMS govt number. The deadline is Aug. 1, 2022.

Commissioner Green motioned to keep the burn ban in effect until Aug. 8. Seconded by Commissioner Albright, the motion carried. 

Kayci Nehring, Tax Assessor Collector, commented on rollback report reflecting $27,0802 will be paid to the county. The Commissioners agreed to the cancellation of the phone service at the Falls on the Brazos Park and will access a Google number to be used as contact. Website options is still under discussion. Commissioner Green expressed concern for allocation of funds for management without evidence of management follow-up.

Commissioners approved the purchase of a mobile rolling TV stand for the existing 84-inch TV. Judge Elliott’s budget will cover the cost. Regarding indigent cremations, Commissioner Green moved to reimburse Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home-Rosebud for cremation expenses of a Falls County resident but declined payment to the Lake Shore Funeral Home-Waco for a McClennan County resident as requested. Seconded by Commissioner Albright, the motion carried.

In other matters, the Commissioners were updated noting to continue with email access, fifteen county employees need to complete the Cybersecurity Course. Effective August 1, the Order of Appointment for Precinct Election Judges (EJ) and Alternate Judges (AJ) was approved: Pct. 101-(EJ)-Trudie Asbury, Angela Mack (AJ), Pct. 102- ( EJ) Catherine Webster, Marilyn Degrate (AJ), Pct. 103-(EJ) Lynn Zander, Robert Ashley (AJ), Pct. 201-(EJ) Sharon Scott, Linda Lockridge (AJ), Pct. 202-(EJ ) LaTonja Taplin, Derrick Foster (AJ), Pct. 203-(EJ)Elizabeth Richardson, Linda Vickers (AJ), Pct. 301-EJ Patricia Holloway, Deborah Lewis (AJ), Pct. 302- (EJ)Eugenia Tarver, Sara Michaels (AJ), Pct. 303- (EJ) Cindy Moelle, Shirley Piper (AJ), Pct. 401- (EJ) Kay English, Corrine Comeaux (AJ), Pct. 402- (EJ) Peggy Ford, Johnny Mitchel (AJ), 403-Pct. The 2022-23 Commissioners Court/Budget meetings are scheduled every Monday and Thursday beginning August 8 and ending August 29. Public hearing on proposed tax rate will be Sept. 12 and the Formal Adoption of the Budget and Formal Adoption of Tax Rate/Commissioners Court is Sept. 26. 

Jeff Jackson, Road and Bridge, reported TxDot delayed job on the Moon River project and two applications for Pct. 3-Shredded Operators were received. Purchasing estimates for a haul truck were presented. Commissioner Albright moved to purchase the vehicle; Seconded by Commissioner Willberg, motion carried. Commissioner Green moved to approve the payment of all bills, budget amendments, and payroll; Seconded by Commissioner Albright, motion carried. Prior to the meeting adjournment, Commissioner Albright moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.
