Falls County Commissioners meet, discuss several topics

The Falls County Commissioners Court met on Jan. 23, 2023, with County Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Commissioners present were Milton Albright (Pct. 1), F. A. Green (Pct. 2), and Nita Wuebker (Pct. 4). Jason Willberg (Pct. 3) was absent.

Under Elected Official Reports, Commissioner Wuebker noted the Water District was making progress working on the lake. Judge Elliott announced Emergency Services Districts were meeting Monday, Jan. 23, but not together. 

Agenda items approved consist of the private resale of tax trust, 217 Shady St.- Marlin, to Stephanie Thomas, which was included in the December 2022 tax sale, a Resolution for 2024 Youth Victim Services and 2024 Youth Intervention Services and request for payment for the Operation & Maintenance on the Cow Bayou watershed structures. 

A detailed Racial Profiling Analysis Report by Constable Pct. 1 was approved. Judge Elliott reported updating the county website with Braille Transcribing Software is making progress.  Commissioners also approved the payment of compensatory hours to Jail Sergeant Leann Thompson and the list of County officials who need to be bonded. From Ann Price, Commissioners accepted portrait of Senator Tom Connally which was hanging in the VA Hospital. The portrait will be displayed in the District Court Room.

Jeff Jackson, Road & Bridge Administrator, reported due to health concerns of two employees, the department will be short-handed for the next five months. He also recommended purchasing an excavator from John Deere in a lease to own agreement. The Commissioners agreed. In addition, a list of the State upcoming projects and bridge issues for Falls County was provided.

Commissioner Green moved to approve the payments of bills, including reimbursements, late charges, transfer of cash or funds from any line item or departments. Seconded by Commissioner Albright, motion carried. With the correction of #12, “Include all county owned property for tax sale on future tax sales”, Commissioner Wuebker moved to accept the minutes of the prior meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Green, motion carried.  Judge Elliott moved the meeting adjourned.
