Henson, Gardere to head Marlin Middle, High next year

The Marlin ISD School Board of Managers met June 5 at the Marlin Middle School Library with President Billy Johnson presiding. Board Managers present were Misty Ehlers, Byrleen Terry, and Dr. Darryl Henson, Superintendent of Schools.

There was one public comment after returning from closed session in deliberation of personnel matters. Superintendent Reports followed. 

Jesse Bustamante, Director of Human Resources/Special Projects gave Bond 2022 updates. The track surface has been successfully removed and sub-grade work continues, and demolition vendors were selected. It was announced the turf at Legion Field will be dark green with purple end zones and gray track. The Bond Advisory Committee will meet Monday, June 19, at 6:30 p.m. 

Superintendent Dr. Darryl Henson presented the 2023-2024 Organizational Chart noting he and Nicola Gardere will serve as Interim Principal at Marlin Middle School and Marlin High School (grades 7-12). Dr. Henson wants to ensure students excel in academics and athletics.

Dr. Stacy Parker Knight, Chief Operating Officer, noted the 2022-2023 Average Daily Attendance (ADA) was 826.02, reflecting 142 instructional days which was much higher than the state projected. Dr. Knight presented 2023-2024 projected revenue data. Summaries included the General Fund and Child Nutrition budgets for the 2022-2023 school year. 

Dr. Knight presented details regarding the purchase of district vehicles through The Gunn Auto Groups. The purchases will include 2023 Silverado 3500 work truck, 2024 GMC Sierra 2500, and a 2021GMC Cargo Van. The total amount of purchases is $148,339.

Jesse Bustamante announced JYNES Construction & Roofing located in Red Oak as the vendor for existing structures demolition. He announced J&M Civil Construction Services, LLC as the vendor for the stadium electrical improvements related to Bond 2022 projects. Even though the stadium is not within the city limits, the district continues to work with the city and county to ensure that adequate power will be available to power the scoreboard.

Completing the consent agenda items, Byrleen Terry moved to accept, seconded by Misty Ehlers, the motion carried. All consent agenda items were approved.  With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
