Juneteenth Celebration

“Celebrate Freedom” was the theme of the Juneteenth celebration held Saturday, June 18 at the BTW Alumni building. In commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, the Marlin Texas Juneteenth Organization recently hosted the Juneteenth celebration including a parade, program, and free BBQ lunch for all in attendance. Entertainment for the children included bounce houses and mobile gaming truck. 

Shirley King served as parade marshal and the program’s guest speaker was Dr. Sharon Deloach, Marlin High School Principal. The first runner ups in the Tri-County Miss Juneteenth Pageant were Lil. Miss Juneteenth Serenity and Miss Juneteenth Runner-up, Kendra Trotter, were introduced to the attendees. Kendra Trotter was also the recipient of a $500 scholarship from the local Marlin Texas organization. Howard Moore and Jewline Mayes were introduced as the oldest present.

President Hermetta Paul, Marlin Texas Juneteenth Organization, thanked the public for support of all the activities and is looking forward to a bigger and better Juneteenth 2023.
