Keeping an Eye on Marlin

Marlin Police Department working to protect neighborhoods
“Who better to know the neighborhoods than the people that live there?” exclaimed McCall, speaking on the subject of the neighborhood watch.

The Marlin Police Department has embarked on a new initiative to protect neighborhoods and prevent crime in the City of Marlin.

The initiative, called Keeping and Eye on Marlin, will have four parts. The first, Light Up to Prevent Crime, came to be when members of the department realized how many lights were down all around town.

“We have a lot of areas where the street is not protected because of the lack of lit areas,” Police Chief Lawrence McCall said. “Often-time criminals frequent areas where they know they don’t have any visibility.”

There have been many national studies done over the years to find a correlation between crime and unlit areas. Though research for larger cities has shown either inconclusive or negative results, studies done on smaller towns show a positive change when areas are well lit.
