Leading woman educator impacts education worldwide

Peggy Clark received her Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) Society International 50-year pin at the Beta Nu Chapter meeting held in Marlin, TX, on September 10, 2022. Peggy, who first taught five years at West ISD, came to Rosebud and Mrs. Mary Lee Stubbs, an English teacher in Rosebud, invited her to join DKG Society International. Peggy Clark was initiated in 1969 and has been a member for over 50 years in the Beta Nu Chapter, based in Marlin. Peggy Clark taught in Rosebud until her retirement in June 1913, after 50 years.

Peggy Clark served as DKG Beta Nu Chapter President from 1984-1986 and was given the Chapter Achievement Award in 1987. She served as Area Coordinator for two years and in several state committees. Having attended and participated in DKG Texas State Organization conventions, Peggy Clark remarked, “I met so many wonderful ladies who were teachers, made so many friends. Until you experience attending a Texas State Convention, you do not realize how grand it is. To the wonderful ladies who were there, I say congratulations and thank you.”

Peggy is shown here with Beta Nu member Dr. Marlene Zipperlen, long-term DKG Society Sister.

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International mission is to promote professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.

Every DKG member is considered a leader – a woman who wants to make a difference.

As a member of DKG, Peggy Clark automatically became a member of a geographic Forum.  Each Forum has projects, professional communiques and, when appropriate, information about proposed legislation with ramifications for educators and children’s welfare. DKG is also a non-governmental organization member of the United Nations with consultative status with the Economic Social community. DKG has a long relationship with UNICEF and the Committee Teaching About the UN. DKG has been recognized by the Institute of International Education for its partnership with Fulbright grants in supporting World Fellowship recipients – non-member women outside of the United States and Canada, who against financial and cultural odds came to universities in the U.S. and Canada to pursue advance degrees. Overall, DKG at the international, state organization and chapter levels give approximately $3,000,000 a year in scholarships, grants, and project support. The Society is a philanthropic force on the international scene. As a member, Peggy Clark has been and continues to be a part of that philanthropy. She impacts education worldwide!

Through her participation in Beta Nu Chapter, Peggy Clark demonstrates Delta Kappa Gamma Society International’s focus 1) to unite women educators in a genuine spiritual fellowship; 2) to honor women who have given or who evidence a potential for distinctive service in any field of education; 3) to advance the professional interest and position of women in education; 4) to initiate, endorse and support desirable legislation or other suitable endeavors in the interests of education and of women educators; 5) to endow scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study and to grant fellowships to non-member women educators; 6) to stimulate the personal and professional growth of members and to encourage their participation in appropriate programs of action; and 7) to inform the members of current economic, social, political, and educational issues so that they may participate effectively in a world society.

Peggy explains, “I miss teaching. Some of my students came back as teachers. Upon my retirement, a former student was the principal.”

Peggy’s giving heart is evident in her community involvement; she enjoys serving as church hostess at the First Baptist Church in Rosebud, where she attends Bible Study with others from throughout the Rosebud community. Peggy is also a member of a Wednesday study group which meets in a memorial room at the D. Brown Memorial Library (Public Library in Rosebud, TX) where many articles remain in memory of Mary Lee Stubbs. This Wednesday study group has helped the library with books and $1,000+ in aid materials, plus have bought landscaping bricks utilized in the library’s garden beds.

Peggy Clark was recognized as Chamber of Commerce Rosebud Citizen of the Year in 2012. Community support of the school put together 160 boxes for all staff and presented them at the service prayer walk the night before school started.

In the words of Beta Nu Chapter members, “Peggy exemplifies the ideals of Delta Kappa Gamma, and it is evident that she values our purposes and sisterhood.” We congratulate Peggy Clark on receiving her 50-year membership achievement pin in Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
