Lions International Director and District Governor visit Marlin Lions

The Lions Club of Marlin was honored by Ernesto “TJ” Tijerina, International Director of Lions Club International, and Angela Cases, District 2-X3 Governor, at its Aug. 24 meeting. 

Ernesto “TJ” Tijerina resides in San Antonio, Texas. “Director Tijerina has worked for 47 years as a professional educator and in school administration. His experience in, and out of the classroom as a teacher and superintendent has earned him several awards including Education Service Center Region 20 Superintendent of the Year and Texas Association of School Boards Regional Superintendent of the Year.” (https://cdn2.web)

Lion TJ, as he indists on being addressed, became a Lion in 1977 after joining the Del Rio San Felipe Lions Club and continues to serve with them to this day. He has held a number of offices with the association including district governor, district campus club chairperson and district GMT membership and new club growth team member. He has received numerous awards including multiple International President’s Awards and International President’s Certificates of Appreciation. He has also been awarded with the Lions Clubs International Foundation Helping Hands Award.

Lion TJ officiated the installation of Marlin’s newest members. He asked if they accepted the responsibilities of their work in the areas of Diabetes, Vision, Hunger, Environment, and Childhood Diabetes. Also, he emphasized full participation as a Lion. Lion TJ congratulated all for accepting challenges, “Lionism was developed in Texas...We serve from the heart.” Lion TJ implored members to lead by example, thereby motivating others to join in service to their community.  

Angela Cases is Lions MD2-x3 Governor. “Angela comes to Texas by way of New England where she grew up in Vermont and New Hampshire. Discovering quickly there is no snow here but plenty of sweet tea, bbq and pecan pie, she never left. Settling in Temple in 2012. There she finished both her Bachelor’s and MBA Degrees at Texas A&M University – Central Texas.” (Biography)

“From a Lions perspective, she has been part of LCI and District 2-C3 since her club chartered in 2016, so this the start of her 7th year as a Lion. She has attended both ALLI and ELLI and trust hard to seek out any additional learning opportunities that she can to become more knowledgeable and in turn help other Lions around her. She has held all club level positions except treasurer in her short Lion years.  She is a Progressive Melvin Jones, Texas Lions Camp Life Member and WSB Life Member.” (Biography) As evidenced, Governor Angela Cases has executed “multiple roles in Club level leadership and District level leadership, continuing the mission of Lions Club International of service to the community through active volunteerism to meet identified needs. This includes networking to find local community partners, organizing and managing service and fundraiser events, keeping members engaged and motivated to continue to serve the community, empowering individuals to reach potentials, grant writing, district, state and international level coordination for alignment on mission and conducting trainings.” (linkedin)
