Marlin’s Juneteenth celebration hits downtown

On June 19, downtown Marlin played host to the annual Juneteenth Celebration Parade.
Juneteenth is an annual holiday to the African American community that has been celebrated every year on June 19, since 1865’s announcement of the abolition of slavery in the state of Texas. This abolition of slavery in Texas came nearly three years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863.
