Marlin BTW Alumin & Ex-Students scholarship

The Marlin Chapter Booker T. Washington Alumni & Ex-Students Association (BTW) met recently at the Wildcat Den, Elizabeth Richardson presiding. Officer and committee reports were presented. The Marlin Chapter voted to continue to meet at the Wildcat Den, 3rd Thursdays monthly. 

The Fundraising committee discussed several options for a profitable fundraiser. Debra McDavid, Chr., reported the committee will have a full report at the September meeting. The committee consists of Patricia Woodson, Jimi Lynn, Mary Gibson, Byrolyn McDonald and Helen McCullough Smith. 

In other matters, chapter tee shirt updates will be presented at the September meeting by Marye Jackson and Esther Smith Johnson. The chapter is also in the planning phase of establishing its own 501c3 status. President Richardson noted she has reached out for assistance.

Me’Kia Mouling was acknowledged as the 2023 $700 Scholarship recipient from the Marlin Chapter.  Me’Kia is enrolled at Texas A&M University in College Station majoring in Zoology. 

It was announced there will be a BTW National in-person planning retreat Saturday, September 16, 10am-5pm, at the BTW building. National President Kathyrn Lynn will preside at the meeting. The next BTW Marlin Chapter meeting is Thursday, Sept. 21, at 6 p.m. For more information, call (979) 739-0219.
