Marlin enters Stage 1 drought plan

Marlin is now in Stage 1 of the drought contingency plan, effective Aug. 8.

As a result of present drought conditions, high temperatures and resulting water shortages, the Interim City Manager, Chief Hommel, Fire Chief Justin Parker and Mayor Susan Byrd have directed implementation of Stage 1.

At Stage 1, the city is requesting citizens, residents and commercial businesses to voluntarily restrict water usage for outdoor sprinklers, watering of lawns, washing automobiles or any other activity that uses large amounts of water.

The city has already implemented water usage restrictions for all city operations. The immediate goal is to reduce the city’s water usage by 10 percent. If the city is unable to reach this goal, additional water restrictions may be implented.

Mayor Byrd is asking the community to to everything possible to minimize present water usaget to conserve water and minimize the strain on water resources.
